Drug Information Handbook: Pocket, 2002-2003
Published in Paperback by Lexi Comp (July, 2002)
Authors: Charles F. Lacy, Lora L. Armstrong, and Morton P. Goldman
Average review score:

Excellent
This book is my bible. It was helpful while going through pharmacy courses, but in clinical clerkships, it was my saviour. Quick information on side effects, pharmacokinetic data and comparisons between classes of drugs are right at your fingertips! Its small enough to carry around (though it won't fit in your pocket - even if you wear a lab coat) and a great way to look smart when someone asks you a question you don't know!

Eight Great Tragedies: Prometheus Bound, Oedipus the King, Hippolytus, King Lear, Ghosts, Miss Julie, on Bailles Strand, Desire Under the Elms.
Published in Paperback by New American Library (June, 1957)
Authors: Sylvan Barnet, Morton Berman, and William Burto
Average review score:

world's greatest dramas with superb critical essays
Great tragedies afford men insights into mysteries otherwise unfathomed. This unusual volume reveals a panorama of one of literature's great dramatic art forms--the tragedy--as it has developed from Sophocles' time in Greece to the twentieth century of Eugene O'Neill. It provides penetrating insight into the nature of tragedy and the changing points of view held by eminent dramatists through the ages. Some of the world's greatest dramas unfold on these pages. The three editors of the book hold PhD's from Harvard University and now teach in colleges.

Eight Tales from the Major Phase: In the Cage and Others
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (June, 1969)
Authors: Henry James and Morton Dauwen Zabel
Average review score:

A nice selection from the last half of his career
The title of this book is a bit misleading. Calling it the "Major Phase" makes it sound as if all the stories are from the same period in the career of Henry James. This isn't precisely true. Furthermore, the title story (The Cage) might lead one to suspect that all the stories are from his last period.

Now, I don't defer to many people in the level of my admiration for the work of this writer, but I am certainly aware that some stories in the book (e.g., "The Author of Beltraffio," "The Altar of the Dead") are easier going than "The Cage" or "The Beast in the Jungle" or "The Jolly Corner"--that is, stories written in James's "late manner."

However, the chronological presentation of these tales, as well as the excellent selection of material, makes a fine entrance to the world of his later novels. I'm thinking in particular of The Ambassadors, The Wings of the Dove, and The Golden Bowl.

So, if the only thing you have read by this author is Washington Square and Portrait of a Lady, and you aren't sure whether you want to dive into the writer's later work, this book is a good test.

Encounter With God: A Theology of Christian Experience
Published in Paperback by Paulist Press (January, 1988)
Author: Morton T. Kelsey
Average review score:

Christian Spirituality and Thinking for the Layman
It is an excellent book to search the roots of our western world's religious heritage. The spiritual reality is presented as a reality, even for old fashioned Christianity in the world of the esoteric. The book reads very well, for which a college degree is not needed.

An English Doctor in America
Published in Paperback by Fraser Publishing Co. (September, 1997)
Author: Richard F., M.D. Morton
Average review score:

true tales of an immigrant doctor - a great book !
This autobiography recounts the life and adventures of a British doctorwho decides to do his residency in America and decides to stay. The book focuses on the daily joys and little tales of a resident in a hospital, and later of the doctor and his doctor-wife working in rural America. It also gives a detailed look at how medical practice was different in the post-war era. In some sense it reminded me of "A little house on the prarie", in another it is also the story of an immigrant who has to make his life with the little he had at the time. The book ends on a very unexpected note - an intriguing twist that lingered in my head long after I had put the book down.
